Molly Alvey enters her first season at the helm of the University of Southern Indiana volleyball program after spending the last three seasons as an assistant with Temple University.
Alvey inherits a Screaming Eagles' program that has recorded four straight 20-win seasons and that has appeared in four consecutive conference championship matches. The Eagles were 21-9 overall (8-6 GLVC) in 2003 and return five starters.
“We are very excited to have someone of Molly’s qualifications come in to lead our successful volleyball program,” USI Director of Athletics Jon Mark Hall said. “She has been a part of great success at Temple and has learned under one of the top coaches in the country.”
As an assistant at Temple, Alvey helped lead the Owls to the Atlantic-10 Conference regular-season championship in 2003. She helped the Owls to both the A-10 regular-season and tournament championships in 2002 as well as an appearance in the NCAA Division I Sweet 16.
Prior to Temple, Alvey was a four-year starter and an All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference performer in both basketball and volleyball at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.
As a volleyball player, Alvey set the school’s all-time record for assists and was a three-year team captain. In basketball, she finished third in the nation (NCAA Division III) in three-point field goal percentage and helped lead the Colonels to the NCAA Division III Sweet 16.
“Molly has been successful as a student-athlete and a coach…bottom line, she is a winner,” Hall stated. “Her energy and drive will be contagious and the young women will respond to her positively.”
A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Alvey graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Centre. She graduated with a master’s degree in international business administration from Temple.
