Kathleen Yony is entering her fourth season with the University of Southern Indiana volleyball coaching staff and assists Head Coach
Leah Mercer in all aspects of the Screaming Eagles' program.
Yony, who works closely with the defensive specialists, has helped USI's back row excel during her first three years on the Eagles' sideline. In 2013, USI held the opposition to a mere .158 opponent attacking percentage; a mark that was 50 percentage points lower the season (2010) prior to her arrival.
A native of Miami, Florida, Yony came to USI after a stellar career at Nova Southeastern University that saw her set the school’s all-time record with 1,721 digs. In 2009, Yony earned All-Sunshine State Conference honors as well as AVCA All-South Region accolades after helping Nova Southeastern to the NCAA II Tournament.
Yony, who helped Nova Southeastern claim the NCAA II South Region title as a sophomore in 2008, earned tryouts with the U.S. National Team following her sophomore and junior seasons.
As a coach, Yony has worked with a pair of club teams, the Tribe Volleyball Club (Deerfield Beach, Florida) and the Boomer’s Volleyball Club (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida), since 2008. She was the head coach for the Boomers Elite 12 team and an assistant coach for the Boomers Elite 13 squad as well as the Tribe Elite 17 team.
Yony graduated from Nova Southeastern in 2011 with her bachelor’s degree in psychology and is currently working toward her master's degree at USI.
