Lu Anne Howerton became the third head coach in the history of the USI women's golf program in September 2015.

A third-straight appearance in the NCAA II Division II East Super Regional highlighted the 2017-18 campaign. Howerton's Eagles also had a fourth place finish in the GLVC Championships and a first place title in the Screaming Eagles Classic.

The 2016-17 season saw the Eagles return to the NCAA II East Super Regional for a second time under Howerton's tutelage. USI also placed fifth at the GLVC Championships.

In her first season, Howerton helped direct the Eagles to a fourth place showing in the NCAA II East Super Regional with Anastasia Carter advancing to the NCAA II National Championships as an individual.
