Dustin Emerick '12 returned to the University of Southern Indiana men's and women's cross country/track and field teams as a volunteer assistant coach in 2015-16.
This is his second stint with the Screaming Eagles' coaching staff after serving as a student assistant coach in 2012-13.
A four-time All-American in cross country and track, Emerick broke USI and GLVC Hall of Famer Elly Rono’s 13-year-old school record in the 10,000 meters when he crossed the finish line in 28 minutes, 41.62 seconds at the 2011 Mt. SAC Relays. He went on to break that mark the following spring when he finished the 10,000 meters in a USA Olympic Trials “B” qualifying time of 28 minutes, 33.35 seconds.
Emerick, a combined 12-time All-GLVC honoree, was the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association Midwest Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2011 and 2012 and was the 2012 USI/Old National Bank Male Student Athlete of the Year.
In 2009, Emerick captured the first of two straight All-America accolades in cross country when he finished 28th at the NCAA II National Championships. He earned his first All-America accolade in track in 2011 when he placed seventh in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA II Outdoor Championships before capturing All-America honors the following year with a sixth-place showing in the same event.
A 2012 graduate of USI with a bachelor's degree in history, Emerick also was a seven-time All-Midwest Region honoree and a three-time GLVC Freshman of the Year.
