Sammie Kihega

Sammie Kihega played for five seasons, primarily at catcher, under Head Coach Sue Kunkle from 2020-24. Kihega was a member of the Screaming Eagles' 2022 NCAA II Regional Championship squad that went to the NCAA II Softball National Championships.

The former USI backstop earned All-Great Lakes Valley Conference and All-Ohio Valley Conference honors while in a USI uniform. During her playing career, Kihega made 183 starts and hit .301 at the plate. Additionally, Kihega finished top-10 in the USI Softball record books with 42 doubles and 945 putouts, and she set the program mark with 100 career walks. Kihega also belted 12 home runs, including two grand slams, and drove in 92 runs while scoring 63 times. Defensively, Kihega posted a .988 fielding percentage with 74 assists and threw out 25 baserunners.

Kihega is a native of Greenfield, Indiana.
