(Updated July 6, 2016) Assistant coach Kim Dean '12 begins her eighth season with the University of Southern Indiana softball coaching staff. Dean assists Head Coach Sue Kunkle in all aspects of the USI softball program.

During Dean's tenure with the Eagles, USI has advanced to the NCAA II Tournament three times and twice set single-season school records for home runs and RBIs.

Kim DeanDean played four seasons with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers, amassing a .294 career batting average and more than 175 career hits. She also racked up more than 50 RBIs and scored more than 100 runs, while earning second-team All-GLVC honors as a sophomore in 2003.

During her career, Dean played and started in nearly 200 games, helping UW-Parkside to 113 victories and 42 GLVC wins.

After completing her eligibility in 2005, Dean broke into the coaching ranks as a student assistant at UW-Parkside.

A native of South Elgin, Illinois, Dean earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UW-Parkside in 2006 and has spent time working in the University of North Texas intramural program. She also worked with city athletic programs in Denton, Texas, from 2008 to 2009.

“Coach Dean is an irreplaceable part of our staff,” Kunkle said. “She is aggressive and extremely hard-working in helping with the success of this program. We are fortunate to have her on our staff.”

Dean, who also teaches in the Department of Kinesiology and Sport at USI, earned a master’s degree in public administration from USI in 2012.
