Michael Lovett joined USI men's soccer as an assistant coach in 2015, focusing on training the Screaming Eagles’ goalkeepers.
The native of Murray, Kentucky, came to USI after a two-year stretch as the Brescia University men’s and women’s soccer head coach (2013-14). He also has been an assistant coach for Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis (2012), Ball State University (2008-09), Virginia Tech University (2006-07), and Murray State University (2002-06).
During his time with Murray State, Lovett guided the Racers from a 2.49 goals against average in 2001 to a low 0.93 in 2005. The Racers also recorded 13 shutouts over four seasons (2003-05), an average of 4.3 shutouts a years.
Lovett, who earned a bachelor’s degree from Murray State in 2006, has earned his state, regional and national goalkeeping diplomas, as well as advanced regional, national, and national youth diplomas from the NSCAA. He has been director of the Soccer Plus Goalkeeper Schools since 2002 and is a clinician for the NSCAA goalkeeper staff and the Kentucky Olympic Development Program.
Prior to pursuing a coaching career, Lovett played collegiately at the University of South Alabama (1992-94) and played professionally for the Mobile Revelers in the United Soccer League (1994).
Lovett and his wife, Patricia, have a son, Skylar, and a daughter, Sydney.
