University of Southern Indiana Men's Golf Coach Dave Turpin returns for a second year to lead the Screaming Eagles after being hired in August 2021.
In just one season as head coach, Turpin showed progress in leading his 2021-22 team to an NCAA Division II Regional for the first time since 2000. He also produced two All-GLVC student-athletes.
In 2022-23, Turpin led the Eagles in their first year at the Division I level and in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Eagles finished with five top-three finishes including a tie for first at the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitaional. As a team, the Eagles shot a program record 294.59 shots per round average. The Eagles were also a semifinalist in their first OVC Championships.
In 2021-22, Turpin led his group to two team championships (SVSU Spring Invitational & Bill Blazer Memorial) and seven top-5 team finishes. As a team, the Eagles shot a program record 296.28 shots per round average. USI also was a semifinalist in the GLVC Championships and finished 10th in the Midwest/Central Regional.
Turpin comes to USI with a more than 20 years of amateur golf experience, including five Major Champion wins on the National Amateur Golf Tour (Championship Flight) and an 11th-place national finish in 2019.
A competitor in the Evansville City Golf Tournament for more than 20 years, Turpin was the 2021 Evansville Senior City Champion as well as the 2015 Evansville Country Club Champion.
In addition to his amateur golf resume, Turpin has spent more than 20 years as a basketball coach at Mater Dei and as a baseball umpire at the high school, JUCO and NCAA levels.
Turpin, who resides in Evansville with his wife LaDonna, earned a bachelor’s degree from USI in business administration as well as a master’s degree in engineering management. He is a semi-retired sales consultant and has two kids, Alex Turpin and Austin Campbell.
