Kevin Gant ’12 began his second tenure as an assistant coach for men's basketball in 2015-16 after two years away from the program. He assists Head Coach Stan Gouard in all facets of the program.
During the first season with the Eagles under the direction of Gouard, Gant helped USI navigate the unusual COVID-19 2020-21 schedule. The Eagles would conclude the year with a 12-5 season and an appearance in the NCAA II Midwest Regional that was hosted at the Ford Center. USI would have been the third seed in the GLVC Tournament after producing an 11-4 league mark, but was forced to withdraw due to COVID.
Gant was a member of the USI staff, under former Head Coach Rodney Watson, that helped the program win a fourth NCAA Division II Midwest Region crown and reach the NCAA II Elite Eight final four in 2018-19. Gant also surpassed the 200-win mark during his tenure as an assistant, graduate assistant, and player with USI during the 2018-19 campaign.
Following his three years as a Screaming Eagle (2008-11) and two years as a USI volunteer assistant (2011-13), Gant was an assistant coach at North Central High School in 2013-14 and 2014-15 in Indianapolis, Indiana, before coming back to the Eagles.
As a player at USI, Gant earned third-team All-GLVC honors after averaging 8.4 points, 4.9 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per contest. Under Watson, Gant played and started in 57 games for the Eagles and was a major factor in USI's return to the NCAA II Midwest Region Tournament in 2011.
The native of Indianapolis, Indiana, finished his three-year career at USI with 6.0 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game average. He shot nearly 50 percent from the field and more than 40 percent from three-point range as the Eagles posted an impressive 75-16 record during his playing career.
Gant earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology with a minor in coaching from USI in 2012. He resides in Evansville with his wife, Whitney, and their children Nevaeh, Kevin, Jr., and Gra'son.
