Doug Novsek joined the USI Basketball and Head Coach Stan Gouard’s staff in 2023-24.
Novsek came to USI from Eastern Illinois University, where he spent the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons as an assistant, and the University of Idaho, where he was the assistant coach in 2019-20 and the associate head coach in 2020-21.
Between 2015 and 2018, Novsek worked with the University of Evansville and helped the Purple Aces to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship game and a 25-9 mark in 2016. He also helped guide the University of Nevada to three Western Athletic Conference regular-season titles between 2006 and 2015.
In addition to stops at Evansville and Nevada, Novsek worked four seasons at the University of Nebraska (2002-06), three seasons at Illinois State University (1999-2002), five seasons Texas State University (1994-99) and five seasons at Indiana State University (1989-94). Those stops resulted in three NIT appearances, one NCAA Tournament appearance, and two conference championships.
Novek played collegiately for Southern Illinois University between 1983-87, spending two years as the team captain of the Salukis. The native of Lawrenceville, Illinois, also was the second runner-up for Illinois Mr. Basketball as a senior at Lawrenceville High School.
Novseck and his wife, Cheryl, have two children.
