Derrick Tilmon begins his fourth season as an assistant men's basketball coach at the University of Southern Indiana and as a part of Head Coach Rodney Watson's staff.
Tilmon started his collegiate career as a player at Hiawassee Junior College (Madisonville, Tennessee) before playing three seasons at Southern Illinois University. He was a three-year starting forward and center for the Salukis, ending his career as SIU’s 13th all-time leading shot blocker. The Salukis were 20-13 and advanced to the second round of the NIT during Tilmon’s senior season.
After his playing days at SIU, Tilmon spent five years playing professionally in Europe. He earned a spot on the Netherlands All-Star team and was part of the Netherlands championship series.
Tilmon entered the coaching ranks after his playing days, spending a year at Shorter College (Rome, Georgia) before moving onto Kentucky Wesleyan College (Owensboror, Kentucky), where he spent the previous three seasons.
Tilmon, who graduated from SIU with a bachelor’s degree in health education in 2000, and his wife Nicole, have two son, Derrick, Jr. and Darren.
