Brent Owen '09 M'12 returned to the USI men's basketball program as a full-time assistant coach in 2014-15. He assists Head Coach Rodney Watson in all facets of the program. 

Owen, who came back to the Screaming Eagles after two years as a head coach for Tell City High School, was a member of the USI staff that helped the program win a fourth NCAA Division II Midwest Region crown and reach the NCAA II Elite Eight final four in 2018-19. Owen also surpassed the 250-win mark during his tenure as an assistant, graduate assistant, and player with USI during the 2018-19 campaign. 

Prior to becoming the head coach at TCHS, Owen made the transition from college player to graduate assistant coach at USI. The Eagles were 72-16 during Owen's tenure as the graduate assistant coach, including USI's run to the 2012 GLVC championship. 

The three-time Academic All-GLVC performer, who appeared in 54 games as a member of the Screaming Eagles, recorded his best game as a senior in 2008-09 with a career-high eight points in the win over Maryville University.

Prior to playing for USI, Owen was an Illinois All-State performer at Chrisman High School.

Owen, who married the former Ashley Hutchinson in 2014, graduated from USI in May of 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and May of 2012 with a master's degree in public administration.
