Vicente Cafaro joined the USI baseball coaching staff as a graduate assistant coach in 2014, assisting Head Coach Tracy Archuleta in all facets of the team, focusing on the infielders. He also helped lead the squad to the NCAA Division II national championship as the third base coach. 
 
Cafaro came to USI after spending a season as an assistant coach for the Hickory Crawdads, a Class A affiliate of the Texas Rangers organization. He also signed a minor-league contract with the Texas Rangers organization in 2009, playing one year the Arizona Rangers, Texas’ rookie league squad.
 
Prior to his tenure in professional baseball, Cafaro played two seasons with the Creighton Bluejays. He started 111 of 113 games over the two years, hitting .318 with 66 RBIs, 29 doubles, four triples, and 10 home runs. The native of Maracay, Venezuela, also earned a Rawlings Gold Glove as the nation’s top field second baseman in 2009.
 
In addition his two seasons at Creighton, Cafaro also played college baseball for one season at Iowa Western Community College (2007) and Wayne State College (2006). He batted .441 and won an NJCAA Gold Glove during his season at IWCC, leading the Tigers to the NJCAA World Series.
 
Cafaro earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Creighton University, where he met his wife, Jacque. The couple are expecting their first child, Eva Sofia.
