Tyler Choate

Tyler Choate enters his third season as an assistant coach for the Screaming Eagles. Choate made the transition from player to coach in 2011 after three seasons with the USI program.

During his career at USI, Choate was a 2011 honorable mention All-American after hitting .342 with seven home runs and 49 RBIs. He also appeared in 10 games as a starting pitcher, compiling a 6-1 mark and 2.37 ERA before reinjuring an elbow injury.

In addition to the All-America honor, Choate was a two-time All-Region, All-GLVC, and Academic All-GLVC  honoree. He also received the prestigious GLVC Council of Presidents Academic Excellence Award as a senior.

For his career, he batted .349 with 97 runs scored, 90 RBIs, 33 doubles, six triples, and 17 home runs in 123 games. Choate, who missed most of the 2010 season with his first elbow injury, also was 16-5 on the mound with a 2.99 ERA and 113 strikeouts. The 2.99 ERA ranks ninth all-time at USI.

Choate began his collegiate career by playing two seasons for the Salukis of Southern Illinois University. He transferred after producing a .258 career batting average, 19 RBIs, 23 runs scored, and seven doubles in 51 games.
 
A 2010 graduate of USI with a bachelor’s degree in physical education, Choate is working toward completion of a master of public administration degree.
