USI Women’s Runners cruise to season-opening win

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana Women's Cross Country raced to a first-place finish out of four teams at the season-opening Stegemoller Screagle Twilight Friday night at the USI Cross Country Course.
 
Senior Ellie Hall completed the four-kilometer course in 13 minutes, 54.1 seconds to finish first out of 44 runners, while junior Addison Applegate was second with a time of 14:03.7.
 
The Screaming Eagles finished with 26 team points, defeating second-place Western Kentucky University by 15. The University of Evansville was third with 80 points, while Bellarmine University finished fourth with 97 points.
 
Graduate transfer Sierra Parks was USI's No. 3 finisher as she was sixth with a time of 14:22.3, while sophomore Lilyanna Blais and junior Cordelia Hoover rounded out the Screaming Eagles' top five with respective placements of eighth and ninth.
 
Junior Abrielle Richard and senior Zoe Seward were 10th and 11th, respectively, to round out USI's top seven.
 
USI returns to action next Friday when the Screaming Eagles travel to East Lansing, Michigan, to take part in the Spartan Invitational. The women's 6k is slated for an 8 a.m. (CDT) start, while the men's 8k follows at 8:30 a.m.
