1-2-3 finish propels Screaming Eagles to season-opening win

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana Men's Cross Country got a one-two-three finish en route to a dominating victory at the season-opening Stegemoller Screagle Twilight Friday night at the USI Cross Country Course.
 
Sophomore Jackson Nolan and senior Alex Nolan crossed the finish line nearly simultaneously, with the younger Nolan edging out his older brother by two tenths of a second.
 
Jackson Nolan finished the six-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 25.0 seconds to finish first out of 61 runners and claim his first career collegiate victory on the grass. Alex Nolan, the reigning Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Year, crossed in 18:25.2, while sophomore Ben Perulfi finished third with a time of 18:25.9.
 
The Screaming Eagles placed four runners in the top six and seven in the top 10 as they finished with 20 points, 28 better than second-place Western Kentucky University. Bellarmine University was third with 69 points, while the University of Evansville rounded out the four-team field with 119 points.
 
Junior Layden Wagoner and freshman Brayden Kloeppel finished sixth and eighth, respectively, to round out the Screaming Eagles top five finishers, while sophomore Jadon Muncy and junior Griffen Wheeler were ninth and 10th, respectively, to complete the Screaming Eagles' scorers.
 
USI returns to action next Friday when the Screaming Eagles travel to East Lansing, Michigan, to take part in the Spartan Invitational. The women's 6k is slated for an 8 a.m. (CDT) start, while the men's 8k follows at 8:30 a.m.
