Nolan scores top-10 finish as USI men finish fifth

EAST LANSING, Mich.—University of Southern Indiana Men's Cross Country landed a fifth-place finish out of 23 teams at the Michigan State University Spartan Invite Friday morning.
 
Senior Alex Nolan notched a top-10 finish to lead the Screaming Eagles, who finished with 131 points. Nolan finished ninth in the 312-competitor field with an eight-kilometer time of 24 minutes, 45.9 seconds.
 
His time was a little more than 11 seconds off the winning pace, set by Michigan State sophomore Jasper Cane.
 
Sophomores Jackson Nolan and Jadon Muncy finished 30th and 31st, respectively, to aid the Screaming Eagles' efforts. Jackson Nolan crossed the finish line in 25:25.9, while Muncy completed the race in 25:27.0.
 
Junior Griffen Wheeler and freshman Brayden Kloeppel raced to respective finishes of 46th and 47th to round out the Screaming Eagles' top five, while junior Layden Wagoner and sophomore Ben Perulfi were 48th and 56th, respectively, to fill out USI's scoring performances.
 
The Screaming Eagles are back in action next Friday when they send a contingent of runners to compete at the Ohio Valley Conference Preview meet in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The women's 6k is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start, while the men's 8k is set to begin at 6:35 p.m.
