EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Soccer sophomore goalkeeper Jacob English and sophomore defender Zach Naessens each received Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors on Tuesday morning following their respective performances in week one of the regular season.
 
The OVC recognized English as the OVC Goalkeeper of the Week and Naessens as the OVC Defensive Player of the Week. Both earned their first career Player of the Week awards.
 
The accolades come after a historic tie in which English and Naessens helped lead the Screaming Eagles to a 0-0 draw at the University of Milwaukee last Thursday. The tie was the first time since 2018 the team had earned a season-opening result.
 
Leading the team from inside the net, English notched six saves on 16 shot attempts, including several diving saves throughout the game in his 90 minutes played. It was also a career day for English; his six saves were the most in his career without giving up a goal in a single game. 
 
Naessens helped anchor the defense from the middle of the backline. His 90 minutes played were a critical asset in preventing Milwaukee from scoring on 16 shots.
 
The Screaming Eagles (0-0-2) will come home to Strassweg Field for the first time this season after a two-game road trip to begin the season.
