MTEN pick up win versus SLU, lose at MTSU

MURFEESBORO, Tenn.- University of Southern Indiana Men's Tennis took on two opponents this weekend, first taking on Saint Louis University at home in a win Friday night (4-1), then hit the road to Middle Tennessee State University getting swept on Sunday (4-0).
 
USI moves to 4-5 so far in the 2026 season, just one win off from tying the 2025-win record.
 
Doubles vs. SLU
The Screaming Eagles were the first to add a point to the board by clinching the doubles point. First to finish was junior Aaron Dawson and sophomore Jy Hibbert on the doubles one court (6-1). In their first pairing, senior Axel Sabourin and freshman Kalani Hibbert won their match on the doubles two court to claim the point for USI (6-4).
 
Singles vs. SLU
Out of the four finished matches USI beat the Billikens in three, to complete the win. First to win was Sabourin in the one slot, he earned his third win of the season (7-6 (7-4), 6-2). Next to finish was Dawson in a tough fought tiebreaker set (4-6, 7-5, 6-1). To clinch the victory was Jy Hibbert on the four court, he dominated his opponent (6-3, 6-1).
 
Doubles at MTSU
The Eagles got back in action with a trip to Murfreesboro, to take on a MTSU team that ranks in the top-40 in the country. The Blue Raiders claimed the doubles point with wins on the doubles one and three courts. Sabourin and Kalani Hibbert were paired up again on the two court, leaving their competitive match at 3-4.
 
Singles at MTSU
MTSU quickly claimed the three singles points to clinch the win on the one, four, and five courts. Sabourin competed hard in the first set of his singles one match, keeping the first set within two points (5-7, 1-6). The final three matches were left unfinished.
