FLORENCE, Ala. – University of Southern Indiana Baseball continued to roll, taking game two of a three-game series at North Alabama, 8-0, Saturday afternoon in Florence, Alabama. USI is 8-3 after the first two weeks of the season, while UNA goes to 6-5.
USI junior right-hander
Ryan Weller started and picked up his first victory as a Screaming Eagle. Weller (1-0) allowed two hits and five walks, while striking out six and blanking the Lions over five innings of work.
Offensively, USI picked up where it left off from Friday's 20-1 victory by pushing a run across in the opening frame. Graduate centerfielder
Khi Holiday started the game with a single and advanced to second on an error. Holiday would advance to third on a groundout before scoring on a single by senior shortstop
Clayton Slack.
The Screaming Eagles pulled out to a dominating 4-0 advantage in the second when junior catcher
Drue Saenz hit a three-run homer to left field. The home run was Saenz's first of the year and as a Screaming Eagle.
The score would remain 4-0 until the fifth when the Screaming Eagles posted another three runs before capping off the scoring with a tally in the eighth for the 8-0 win. USI pounded out 13 hits on the afternoon.
At the plate, Saenz led USI with three RBIs in the contest. Slack followed with two RBIs and a team-best five-of-five at the plate.
