USI Volleyball hits the road for the Michigan Invitational

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Volleyball travels to Ann Arbor, Michigan for its first road games in the Michigan Invitational.

The Screaming Eagles are set to take on Florida Atlantic University at 11 a.m. and Marshall University at 2:30 p.m. in a doubleheader on Saturday, September 6. Followed by the finale game against the host team University of Michigan, on Sunday at 1 p.m.

All games can be found streaming live on BIG+ for those with a subscription to the service.

USI put up a strong fight against Michigan State, staying consistent despite the loss. The freshmen starters Carley Wright and Aysa Thomas continued to make their impact against the Spartans. Thomas at setter, dished out 13 assists, and Wright led the team in kills on the right side with eight.

The Eagles dominated in defending the net, tallying seven team blocks to the Spartans' four. Led by junior McKenzie Murphy, who had three against MSU, she sits at 16 total in the first four games of USI's season.
 
About Florida Atlantic:
Saturday's game marks the first meeting between the Owls and the Eagles in the programs' history. FAU is 3-1, going off a two-game win streak, to kick off the Invitational, the Owls take on Marshall first on Friday. Junior libero Isabelle Northam led the Owls' defense with 49 digs in the opening weekend of games, recording 5.44 digs per set. For the offense, graduate student Erin Morrissey and sophomore Olivia Hart led the team with 38 kills each.

About Marshall:
Marshall is undefeated, 3-0, heading to Ann Arbor, most recently against Radford in the Highlander Invitational in the opening weekend. Freshman Emma Barnett recorded a team-high 36 kills, averaging 3.27 kills per set. Leading the defense in the first weekend is sophomore Emma Sayre, tallying 44 digs, she was helped by senior Beatrice Ciccarelli, who put up 14 blocks. Head Coach Heather Stout is in her second season with The Herd. She earned them a 15-14 record in her first season. Saturday's match will mark the first time the Screaming Eagles meet Marshall in program history.

About Michigan:
In the first matchup between the Eagles and the Wolverines in program history, USI meets an undefeated, 3-0, Michigan team. Michigan picked up four-set wins against Cincinnati and Wake Forest in the opening weekend. Returning First Team All-Big Ten graduate student Allison Jacobs leads the Wolverines with 54 kills on a .269 hitting percentage. Jacobs leads the Big Ten in points per set with 5.82. Head Coach Erin Virtue is in her third year at the helm, garnering a 28-35 overall record.
