MOREHEAD, Ky.- University of Southern Indiana Volleyball falls 0-2 in the series with Morehead State University to mark the opening weekend of play in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Set 1: MSU 25, USI 19
The Morehead State Eagles came out strong to start the match, going on a 9-0 run from the first serve. Freshman
Aysa Thomas picked up seven digs to help fend off the MSU offense. Junior
Leah Coleman put together three kills to help the Screaming Eagles chip away at the deficit.
Set 2: MSU 25, USI 17
Thomas picked up another seven digs and six assists in the second set. Freshman
Ava Carpenter was subbed in for her second career match, and she landed a kill for USI. Morehead State put up six blocks and 20 digs to keep USI's offense to their lowest hitting percentage.
Set 3: MSU 25, USI 21
Three different Screaming Eagles tallied three kills each in the final set. Freshman
Carley Wright landed her first career service ace after making the switch to playing all six rotations. She also led the back court, picking up five digs. The USI defensive effort of five blocks and 16 digs kept the Morehead offense to their lowest hitting percentage of the game.
For the game, Thomas tallied her seventh consecutive double-double, with 21 assists and a career-high 17 digs. Wright finished with seven kills, five digs, four blocks, and an ace. Coleman led the Screaming Eagles at the net with eight kills.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles recorded nine blocks, tallying 23 total in the Morehead State series.
