Screaming Eagles host Redhawks Sunday for Senior Day

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women's Soccer wraps up its brief Ohio Valley Conference homestand Sunday at 1 p.m. from Strassweg Field when the Screaming Eagles go up against Southeast Missouri State University.

Sunday is Senior Day, as USI Women's Soccer will recognize and celebrate its academic seniors before kickoff at Noon.
 
USI (4-5-2, 1-0-1 OVC) and Southeast Missouri are meeting for just the fourth time in the brief series history. SEMO leads the series with a win, but the two sides have tied in each of the last two meetings.
 
The Screaming Eagles enter Sunday's tilt undefeated in their last six matches, going 4-0-2. USI extended its unbeaten streak on Thursday night at Strassweg Field after a 1-0 win against Morehead State University. It was USI's second result in a row to start the OVC season and its first capture of three points toward the OVC standings.
 
On Thursday, it was a balanced 0-0 battle for most of the match. The tides changed heavily in the Screaming Eagles' favor in the 80th minute when sophomore forward Josie Pochocki volleyed a cross from senior forward Emerson Grafton into the net for the eventual game-winning goal and Pochocki's third tally of the season. The 1-0 victory for USI marked the team's fifth shutout of the season.
 
All five clean sheets by USI have come during the current six-match unbeaten streak. The Eagles' defense is currently enjoying another lengthy scoreless streak, having not allowed a goal in the last 242 minutes of action. Earlier this season, USI put together 313 consecutive minutes without surrendering a goal, which is the longest defensive stretch in USI's D-I era and the second-longest streak by an OVC team this season.
 
Heading into Sunday, USI is led in scoring this season by Grafton with eight points off three goals and two assists. Grafton paces the Eagles with 25 shots and nine on goal, which is in the top five in the OVC for both. Grafton's three goals are tied for a team best with Pochocki, who each have recorded a brace this season. Pochocki has seven points this season with the three goals and an assist.
 
In goal, redshirt junior goalkeeper Anna Markland, who has won OVC Goalkeeper of the Week three times this season, has a 1.43 GAA with 31 saves and five shutouts. The five clean sheets are tied for first in the OVC.
 
Southeast Missouri, which is under the direction of first-year head coach John Klein, is coming off its first result of the season on Thursday with a 1-1 draw at home against the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to pick up a point in OVC play. The Redhawks dropped their previous 10 matches to start the 2025 campaign.
 
In Thursday's match against Little Rock, SEMO saw the Trojans take an early lead with a goal in the 10th minute. The Redhawks answered with a first-half goal in the 29th minute, as the two teams went scoreless the rest of the match. The Redhawks and Trojans combined for 17 shots and 12 shots on goal.
 
On the season, junior midfielder Justi Nelson leads Southeast Missouri with eight points off three goals and two assists. Nelson also tops the squad with 15 shots and eight on goal. Between the posts, SEMO has had to use four different players in goal this season. Junior keeper Madison Geisler has seen the majority of the minutes in net, logging a 2.96 GAA with 50 saves in five starts and six appearances.
 
Following Sunday's slate, OVC play will pause during the midweek and return to action on Sunday, October 5. USI Women's Soccer will hop on the bus and travel to Little Rock on October 5 for the first of two straight OVC road contests for the Screaming Eagles.
