USI Volleyball on the road to Oxford for Miami/Best Western Invitational

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana volleyball is on the road this weekend at the Miami/Best Western Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.

The Screaming Eagles are set to take on Duquesne University at 12:30 p.m. and home team Miami University (Ohio) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, September 12th. Then play Middle Tennessee State University at 11 a.m. to wrap up the invitational on Saturday, September 13th.

The match against Miami (OH) will be broadcast on ESPN+ Friday night, and the other two games can be found for free on RedHawks All-Access on miamiredhawks.com.

The Screaming Eagles are coming off a 0-3 weekend at the Michigan Invitational last weekend. USI took a set (25-22) in a tough loss against Marshall on the first day of the tournament. In USI's first four-set match of the 2025 season, they marked several team highs, tallying 46 kills and 81 digs. Four Eagles finished the game with double-digit kills, including junior Ashby Willis, who earned her first double-double of the season. Freshman Aysa Thomas recorded a new career-high 38 assists.

In the final game of the Michigan Invitational, USI faced the host University of Michigan at Crisler Center. The Screaming Eagles forced a fourth set, winning the third, 25-21, coming in strong and maintaining the lead for the entire set. For the game, senior Jordan Troutman set a new career high of nine digs and a season high of 10 assists. Willis hit a weekend high with 14 kills, leading the team against the Wolverines.

About Duquesne:
For the first game in the Miami/Best Western Invitational, the Screaming Eagles will take on the Dukes on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Duquesne is undefeated heading into the weekend, with six wins. Dukes' head coach Steve Opperman enters his 28th season at the helm, just hitting his 500th career win in Duquesne's five-set win over Robert Morris. In their last game, sophomore Emerson Schrom recorded a personal best 29 kills, hitting a .467 percent. Junior setter Chloe Wilmont grabbed her third double-double with 52 assists and 13 digs. The Dukes are 1-0 in the matchup history; the lone game in the series was in 2022, in the finale of the Chattanooga Classic.

About Miami (OH):
The RedHawks are 3-4, coming off a five-set loss to IU Indy in the Xavier Tournament on 9/6. Freshmen led the RedHawks, Lydia Michelin set a career-high 10 blocks from the middle in the game, and Molly Creech tallied 15 kills. RedHawks head coach Dan Gwitt is in his second season and is 11-25 so far. Miami leads the history series, with the only prior matchup in 2022 in the Chattanooga Classic.

About Middle Tennessee:
Saturday's game will mark the first time the Eagles have played Middle Tennessee in program history. The Blue Raiders are 4-2 to start their 2025 season, with their last match a three-set win over UT Martin. Freshman Raegan Durbin leads the team in kills and kills per set, with double-digit kills in all three of the Blue Raiders' matches. Head Coach Alexa Keckler is in her first season with Middle Tennessee, after 20 years as a college head coach.
