Eagles complete comeback victory over Panthers

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Men's Tennis earned a massive victory over Eastern Illinois University (5-17, 0-2 Horizon), 4-3, at the USI Tennis Courts Wednesday afternoon. The Screaming Eagles earned their first Horizon League win, improving to 4-7 on the year and 1-1 in the Horizon League.
 
Doubles
The Eagles dropped the doubles point to the Panthers, losing the first two matches. EIU fired out of the gate, winning the number two doubles match against senior Quinten Gillespie and sophomore Eytan Michaeli. The duo of junior Mathys Bove and freshman Adam Koon fought in the number three doubles, falling 6-4 to secure the point for EIU.
 
Junior Axel Sabourin and freshman Jy Hibbert led EIU's number-one duo 5-4 before the match was declared unfinished.
 
Singles
The Panthers jumped out early in the singles matches, as Michaeli fell in the number three singles match 6-0, 6-2. USI would bounce back as Gillespie earned the Eagles' first victory, taking the number five match 6-2, 6-2.
 
The Eagles continued to roll over the next two matches. Hibbert brought down EIU's number four singles in two sets (6-4, 6-2), and Bove was victorious in number one singles, 7-5, 6-3.
 
With USI up 3-2, EIU brought the match even, as Koon fell 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 in the number six singles to force a winner-takes-all scenario in the number two singles. Sabourin took the first set 6-3, before falling in the second 6-4, to force a third set. The junior clinched the victory for the Eagles with a 6-3 final set performance.

USI looks to carry the momentum to South Bend, Indiana, as they take on the University of Notre Dame March 30. The match is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
