EVANSVILLE, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Men's Tennis (0-1) battled Butler University (2-0) coming out on the losing end of multiple tight singles matches, eventually dropping its home opener on Friday afternoon, 6-1.
Doubles: Sophomore
Mathys Bove and junior
Axel Sabourin battled the Bulldogs number one doubles team evenly before the match was declared unfinished. Moreover, doubles two and three were won by Butler.
Singles: Multiple singles matches came down to the wire as the Bulldogs emerged victorious in five of six matches. Last year's leader in singles wins, Bove fell (1-6, 4-6) despite making a late charge. Sabourin earned the Eagles lone match in the two slot in a unique comeback (2-6, 6-3, 6-0). The junior dropped the first set and fell behind 3-1 in the second, before rattling off an insane 11 straight games in a row.
Senior
Quinten Gillespie was winning his singles match before being forced to retire with an injury. Freshman
Adam Koon started strong winning the first set, but eventually losing grip of his lead in a tiebreaker 6-10.
