USI Women’s Soccer set for road contest at Purdue Fort Wayne

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women's Soccer gets back on the road Thursday when the Screaming Eagles travel to Purdue University Fort Wayne for a 5:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. CT match in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Southern Indiana (0-4-1) looks to snap a three-match skid and pick up its first road result of the season Thursday against the Mastodons.

Most recently, the Screaming Eagles lost 2-1 at home against Wright State University on Sunday. Following a solid start in the opening minutes, USI found itself trailing 2-0 at halftime. The Eagles did not go down without a fight, cutting the deficit down to one with 13 minutes left in the match. However, time ran out before USI could find a potential tying goal.

USI's goal on Sunday against Wright State came courtesy of redshirt freshman Eva Boer (St. Charles, Illinois) off an assist from sophomore midfielder Pilar Torres (Chula Vista, California). The goal was Boer's second of the season to lead the Screaming Eagles, while Torres dished out her second helper of 2024.

The top shot taker this season has been junior forward Payton Seymour (Louisville, Kentucky) with 10 attempts. Seymour sits alongside junior midfielder Emerson Grafton (Camas, Washington) with one goal so far on the campaign. USI is averaging over 10 shots per match while placing 50 percent of its looks on goal.

Purdue Fort Wayne, out of the Horizon League, is off to a busy start with six matches already under its belt. The Mastodons are 3-2-1 heading into Thursday with three victories in their last four outings. Two victories were 1-0 wins over Ohio Valley Conference schools in Eastern Illinois University and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

The Mastodons got the best of the SIUE Cougars last time out on Sunday. Kicking off a five-match homestand on Sunday, Purdue Fort Wayne scratched across a goal in the 88th minute to secure the 1-0 win in an even contest against the Cougars. Graduate forward Gigi Ricciardi had the game-winning goal, a team-best second goal of the season.

Purdue Fort Wayne's leading attacker has been senior midfielder Bella Reitano with 12 shots this year. The Mastodons average nearly 13 shots per match and have placed over 35 percent of their shots on frame.

Thursday's match will be the fifth all-time meeting between USI and Purdue Fort Wayne. The previous four meetings have been a 2-2 split with the Mastodons winning 1-0 in each of the last two meetings in 2022 and 2023. USI last traveled to Purdue Fort Wayne in 2022.

There will be no video coverage of Thursday's game between the Screaming Eagles and Mastodons. Coverage links are available on the USI Women's Soccer schedule page on usiscreamingeagles.com.
