USI completes DH, series sweep of Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Southern Indiana Baseball completed a series sweep of Bellarmine University by taking both ends of a doubleheader, 8-1 and 8-4, Monday in Louisville, Kentucky. USI is 7-8 in the non-conference season, while Bellarmine goes 1-14.

The series sweep is the first for the Screaming Eagles since end of 2022 when USI took all four games from the University of Indianapolis. The sweep also is USI's first series sweep since moving to Division I.

Game 1:
USI built an 8-0 lead in cruising to an 8-1 victory in the opening game Monday morning at Knights Field. The Screaming Eagles scored one in the third, fifth and eighth while sealing the victory with five in the sixth.

Senior first baseman Tuck Ebest (Austin, Texas) led the Eagles with four RBIs, including a two-run single in the five-run sixth. Sophomore second baseman Caleb Niehaus (Newburgh, Indiana) had a team-best three hits in the victory.

On the mound, junior right-hander Gavin Seebold (Jeffersonville, Indiana) earned his second victory in relief. Seebold (2-1) allowed one run on four hits, striking out four in five innings of work.

USI junior right-hander Peyton Brown (Clemmons, North Carolina) started and got a no-decision. Brown allowed three hits and two walks over four innings, while striking out three.

Game 2:
The Eagles spotted the Knights a 4-0 first inning lead before rallying with three runs in the second and two in the third to take the lead and rolled to an 8-4 win in the nightcap.

USI senior rightfielder Ren Tachioka (Japan) led the USI offensive attack in the nightcap, pounding out four hits and driving in three RBI. Junior catcher Logan Mock (Livermore, California) hit his first home run as an Eagle, a two-run blast, that he drove over the left center wall in the ninth.

On the bump, USI junior right-hander Gavin Morris (Brazil, Indiana) picked up his first win of the season in his fourth start of the year. Morris (1-1) went 5.1 innings, allowing four runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks, while striking out four.

Up Next for the Eagles:

USI continues its nine-game road swing Tuesday when it visits Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. First pitch for the first ever match-up between the two programs is scheduled for 4 p.m.

MTSU is 8-7 overall this year and has five of its last six contests.
