Eagles' lead fizzles after Tritons' surge

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Tennis (1-9) led early against the University of Missouri-St. Louis (5-4) until the Tritons stormed back to defeat the Screaming Eagles, 4-3, at the UMSL Tennis Courts Sunday afternoon.

Doubles: USI dropped all three doubles decisions to lose the doubles point and go down 1-0 in the match.

Singles: It was a strong start to singles play for the Eagles until the Tritons closed out the match with back-to-back wins. Sophomore Axel Sabourin (Marseille, France) kicked off singles competition with a 6-1, 6-3 win at number three before sophomore Mathys Bove (Lyon, France) picked up the Eagles' second victory with a tight 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 decision at number two. USI would go up 3-2 in the match after a 6-3, 6-3 win at number four from junior Quinten Gillespie (Whiteland, Indiana). Despite the advantage, the Eagles dropped the last two singles points to fall to the Tritons.

NEXT UP FOR THE EAGLES:
The Eagles have two weeks until their next match but will begin Horizon League play on March 23 against Belmont University. USI will host the Bruins at the USI Tennis Courts starting at 2 p.m.
