Eagles sink after losing decisive doubles point

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Tennis (1-4) put up a fight but ultimately fell to Austin Peay State University, 4-3, Saturday evening at the Evansville Tennis Center. The Screaming Eagles split against the Governors in singles play but it was the decisive doubles point that proved costly.
 
Doubles: USI dropped the doubles decision with a pair of losses. The duo of freshman Eytan Michaeli (Beer Sheva, Israel)/junior Quinten Gillespie (Whiteland, Indiana) were head-to-head with their opponent but went unfinished while down 4-3 at number two.
 
Singles: The Eagles picked up three singles wins with two matches going into tiebreakers. Down 3-0 in the match, sophomore Mathys Bove (Lyon, France) put USI on the board after securing the 6-4, 6-0 victory at number three. Despite the match ending after the Governors' fourth win, the Eagles kept fighting with Gillespie earning a win at number four (4-6, 7-6, 1-0) and senior Dylan Brown (Evansville, Indiana) scoring the third point for USI at number five (6-0, 4-6, 6-2).

The Eagles are on the road for the next two matches against Power-Five Conference opponents of Indiana University (February 17) in Louisville, Kentucky, and Butler University (March 2) in Indianapolis, Indiana.
