Eagles shutout in homestand finale

USI falls in first OVC match, 6-0

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Soccer opened its first Ohio Valley Conference schedule with a 6-0 loss to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Thursday evening at Strassweg Field. The Screaming Eagles fall to 1-7-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the OVC, while SIUE, who received votes for the NCAA Top 25 poll this week, goes to 6-0-2, 1-0-0 OVC.
 
USI hit a rough patch defensive midway first half when SIUE would post three goals between 17:41 and 33:19. The Cougars would maintain the momentum into the second half with three more goals to seal the 6-0 final score.
 
NEXT UP FOR USI:
The Eagles are on the road for the next three OVC matches, beginning with Lindenwood University Sunday in St. Charles, Missouri. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
 
Lindenwood University opened its OVC slate with a 2-1 loss at Eastern Illinois University this afternoon and saw its record go to 3-4-2 overall, 0-1-0 OVC. The Lions, who are 2-1-1 in its last four matches, allowed two goals in the final 10 minutes in falling to EIU.
 
The Eagles and Lions are knotted up a 2-2-0 in the all-time series. Lindenwood has taken the last two matches, including last year's matchup in St. Charles, Missouri, 2-0. USI snatched the first two meetings in the series, 2-0 and 4-3, with both being played in Evansville.
