Teacher Appreciation Night highlights Eagles’ weekend

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Volleyball (4-8) faces the University of Arkansas at Little Rock on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. at Screaming Eagles Arena in the Screaming Eagles first home match of the Ohio Valley Conference season. Friday's match against the Trojans will be Teacher Appreciation Night to show gratitude towards local teachers, professors, and school staff.

Teacher Appreciation Night
EVSC Foundation and Teacher Locker have partnered with USI Volleyball to bring the first-ever Teacher Appreciation Night to Screaming Eagles Arena. Fans are encouraged to bring supplies from the Teacher Locker Wish List to be donated to Teacher Locker. EVSC teachers and staff will have a chance to win a teacher gift basket, donated by Tools4Teaching.
 
Screaming Eagles Headlines:
Eagles Drop First OVC Match. The Screaming Eagles were relentless in their 3-2 loss to Eastern Illinois. It was just the second time EIU had gone to five sets.
 
You Have To #OVCit. USI is set to host Little Rock for their first home OVC match of 2023. The Eagles are 0-2 against the Trojans after falling 3-2 and 3-0 last season. USI is looking for their first conference tournament berth in the DI era, but only the top eight teams make it to the championship.
 
1,000 Assists. Junior Carly Sobieralski surpassed 1,000 career assists in the loss to EIU. Sobieralski is the first Eagle to earn 1,000 assists since Casey Cepicky (2018).
 
20 and Over Club. Three Eagles have earned 20 or more kills or digs this season. Senior Leah Anderson was the first when she had 20 digs in the win against New Orleans. Junior Carly Sobieralski had 23 digs in the loss to Bradley and senior Abby Bednar is the lone Eagle to have 20+ kills, nabbing 20 in the loss to Bradley.
 
Consistent Starts. Junior Carly Sobieralski has totaled 20 or more assists in all 12 matches. Senior Leah Anderson has racked up 10 or more kills in 10 matches while sophomore Keira Moore has nabbed 10 or more digs in the same amount.
 
Double-Doubles. Three Eagles have secured double-doubles this season. Junior Carly Sobieralski leads the team with six double-doubles while senior Abby Bednar and senior Leah Anderson have each recorded four.
 
Nationally Acclaimed. Due to USI being in the DI reclassification period, the Eagles are not ranked in the NCAA statistical rankings. However, USI would be ranked 56th in digs per set (15.50), 67th in total digs (682), and 91st in aces (73) in the nation. Individually, junior Carly Sobieralski would stand 76th in assists (380). OVC Leaderboard. USI ranks fourth in aces per set (1.66) and opponent aces per set (1.50) while standing fifth in digs per set (15.50), blocks per set (2.00), and opponent hitting percentage (.198).
 
OVC Leaders. Senior Abby Bednar sits in fourth in points per set (4.08) and kills per set (3.35) while standing seventh in aces per set (0.44). Junior Carly Sobieralski ranks fifth in assists per set (8.64) while senior Leah Anderson stands fifth in kills per set (3.34) and points per set (3.99). Junior Paris Downing, junior Abby Weber, and sophomore Keira Moore round out the OVC leaders with Downing being ninth in blocks per set (0.91), Weber sitting 10th in aces per set (0.39), and Moore being seventh in digs per set (3.59).
 
Team Leaders. Senior Leah Anderson leads the pack with 147 kills with senior Abby Bednar trailing close behind with 144 kills. Bednar also leads the team in aces with 19. Junior Paris Downing has nabbed 40 blocks while sophomore Keira Moore has added 158 digs. Junior Carly Sobieralski has shown true potential in the passing game, putting up 380 assists.
 
About Little Rock. The Trojans enter OVC play 3-8 after earning a three-game winning streak during the Louisiana Tech Invitational. Little Rock has totaled 423 kills, 396 assists, and 77 aces with 603 digs and 52 blocks. The Trojans rank second in the conference and 32nd in the nation in aces per set (1.98). (As of 9/18)
 
Leading the Trojans. Daedrianna Cail is a force for the Trojans, ranking second in the OVC and 21st in NCAA in aces per set (0.56). She also ranks 24th in the nation in total aces (23) and leads the team in blocks (17). Bella Cherry has earned a team-high 74 kills and 15 aces while Dariana Valencia has totaled 134 assists. Rylee McClintock is leading the charge on the defensive end, nabbing 82 digs. (As of 9/18)
