Eagles Struggle on Weekend Road Trip

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Tennis had a tough weekend as they fell to Northern Kentucky University on Friday, 7-0, and dropped to Xavier University, 4-0, on Saturday. The Screaming Eagles go to 3-7 on the year while the Norse improved to 6-4 and the Musketeers move to 8-4.
 
USI vs Northern Kentucky
Doubles:
Northern Kentucky was dominate to start the match in doubles, taking the first two matches to claim the point while the number one doubles match went unfinished after it was tied 5-5.
 
Singles:
The Norse continued their hot day as they would go on to win all six matches, five of those coming in straight set victories while they took the number two singles by retirement.
 
USI vs Xavier
Doubles:
It was a hot start for USI right out the gate, as junior Dylan Brown (Evansville, Indiana) and sophomore Quinten Gillespie (Whiteland, Indiana) took down their opponent in the number three doubles match in quick fashion, 6-1. The Musketeers would come right back and take the number one and two doubles matches to earn the point.
 
Singles:
Xavier continued to dominate in the singles as they would take the number two, three, and four singles to win the match. The number one singles match went unfinished after freshman Alfrendo Vogelaar (Den Haag, Netherlands) and his opponent split the first two sets. The number five and six singles also went unfinished.
 
UP NEXT FOR USI:
The Eagles return home to host Saint Louis University on March 11 at 11 am at Wesselman Park. USI will then travel to St. Louis, Missouri to take on former Division II and Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Drury University in a neutral site match on March 12 starting at 1 pm. The match with Drury will be hosted by Saint Louis University.
 
The Eagles then get set for Horizon League play as they open their conference season on the road in Charleston, Illinois to take on Eastern Illinois University on March 18 before traveling to take on Lindenwood University on March 19 in St. Charles, Missouri.
