DANVILLE, Ill. - University of Southern Indiana Men's Tennis earned their first NCAA Division I and Horizon League win on Saturday over Eastern Illinois University, 4-3. The Screaming Eagles improve to 4-8 (1-0 Horizon League) while the Panthers fall to 4-7 (0-1 Horizon League).
Doubles:
EIU made quick work of USI in the doubles matches, taking the number two and three doubles matches to earn the point. The number one singles went unfinished.
Singles:
The Eagles were on fire in singles matches. Senior Lucas Sakamaki (Louisville, Kentucky) took the first match in the number three singles, making swift work of his opponent, 6-0 6-1. EIU was able to take the number four singles before junior Ruben Emmerson-Hiini (Auckland, New Zealand) took the number two singles in easy fashion, 6-3 6-4. USI was able to take a one-point lead after freshman Alfrendo Vogelaar (Den Haag, Netherlands) took home the number one singles in a grueling three set match, 6-3 4-6 6-3. The Panthers were able to tie the match after taking the number five singles in two sets. The number six singles match was a back-and-forth battle till the end. Junior Dylan Brown (Evansville, Indiana) took the thriller home for USI in the third set, 7-6 (6-4) 5-7 6-3, earning the Eagles their first Division I and League win.
