EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Basketball concludes a three-game homestand Wednesday when it hosts Purdue University Fort Wayne for "Hawaiian Night" at Screaming Eagles Arena. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.

USI, which is 2-7, looks to end the homestand on a high note after a heartbreaking loss to Bowling Green State University, 54-52, Saturday. The Screaming Eagles led at halftime (28-21), but lost the lead in the final 20 minutes and missed a chance to tie the game at the buzzer.
The Eagles had three players in double-digits, led by the 15-point performance of junior guard
Jeremiah Hernandez (Chicago, Illinois). Junior forwards
Jack Mielke (Downers Grove, Illinois) and
Kiyron Powell (Evansville, Indiana) followed with 11 points each.
Hernandez and sophomore guard/forward
AJ Smith (Edwardsville, Illinois) lead USI in scoring for the season with 12.8 points and 10.6 points per game, respectively. Smith also is grabbing a team-high 9.4 rebounds per game.
Purude Fort Wayne has been on a roll to start the year, going 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the Horizon League. The Mastodons won both of its games last week, defeating the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, 75-71, at home and Oakland University, 98-77, on the road.
The USI-Purdue Fort Wayne game will be the first match-up between the two programs at USI since November 30, 2000, when both were members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
USI leads the all-time series with Purdue Fort Wayne, 25-14, after falling to the Mastodons last year on the road, 83-59. The Eagles have won 16 of the last 17 meetings with the Mastodons since the 1992-93 season.
Following Wednesday's homestand finale, the Eagles go north to play Indiana State University Saturday for a 1 p.m. (CST) tipoff in Terre Haute, Indiana. The game will be carried on ESPN+ and ESPN 97.7FM.
The Sycamores are red hot to start the season, posting a 7-1 overall mark and 2-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Indiana State defeated Southern Illinois University, 77-48, and Bradley University, 85-77, to start Valley play.
USI won the first meeting between the two programs last season at Screaming Eagles Arena, defeating the Sycamores in overtime, 88-85,
