EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Soccer fell to Lindenwood University on Friday, 2-1, after a dominate performance by the Screaming Eagles. USI falls to 0-6-1 on the season while Lindenwood improves to 1-3-1.
The Eagles played an incredible first half and took momentum into the second half as
Nick Faddis (St. Louis, Missouri) scored 42 seconds into the second half to give the Eagles the early 1-0 lead.
Dan Hartman (Seymour, Indiana) played a through ball to
Will Kirchhofer (Fishers, Indiana) who was able to cross a pass that Faddis was able to head into the top right corner.
The Lions would equalize 10 minutes later after they were awarded a penalty on a hand ball that Anis Smajlovic scored the opportunity. As USI continued to dominate the match, Lindenwood was able to score the game winning goal after Smajlovic played a through ball to Roland Dearborn who was able to beat the USI defense and slot a ball in to give the Lions the win.
Goalkeeper
Alec Meissner (St. Charles, Missouri) made three saves on eight shots faced.
Jackson Mitchell (Newburgh, Indiana) had the best opportunity for the Eagles to take the lead in the second half at the 70:08 with a deflected shot that rolled towards the goal, but the Lions were able to clear it at the line to keep the match tied. Mitchell also finished the game with the most shots of any Eagle with two.
UP NEXT FOR THE EAGLES:
USI returns to the pitch on Saturday, September 24th as they welcome in Chicago State University to Strassweg Field with a 6 pm kickoff. This will be the middle match of a three-match homestand for USI before opening up Summit League play with the University of Missouri-Kansas City on September 28th.
