EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Baseball lost the opening game of a doubleheader to Truman State University, 6-5, Friday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. The second game of the doubleheader was halted due to rain in the sixth inning with Truman State leading, 11-1. The halted game will restart Saturday with two outs in the top of the sixth.
The Screaming Eagles, currently, are 14-19 overall and 3-7 in the GLVC, while Truman State is 14-21, 4-6 GLVC.
Game 1:
USI scored in each of the first four inning but could not hang on in dropping the opener, 6-5.
The Eagles posted a tally in the first, second, and third to take an early 3-0 lead. Junior centerfielder
Ren Tachioka (Japan) gave USI a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly, while junior rightfielder
Trent Robinson (Louisville, Kentucky) and Tachioka scored in the second and third, respectively, on wild pitches.
The Bulldogs rallied to cut the Eagles' advantage to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. USI got one of the runs back in the bottom of the fourth when sophomore first baseman
Michael Conner (Moline, Illinois) crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by junior leftfielder
Evan Kahre (Evansville, Indiana) for a 4-2 lead.
The new two-run lead would not last long as the Bulldogs knotted the game at 4-4 with a pair of tallies in the fifth. Truman took its first lead of the game in the sixth, 6-4, with two runs for the third-straight inning.
Senior right-hander
Brice Stuteville (Rockport, Indiana) took the loss, allowing six runs in 5.1 innings of work. Stuteville gave up six hits and four walks, while striking out six.
