Eagles hope to finish regular season strong

Senior Day set for Saturday vs. Lindenwood

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Basketball hopes to make it a strong finish to the 2021-22 regular season with a split home/road week in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. USI (16-6 overall, 11-5 GLVC) starts the week on the road with a visit Thursday to the University of Missouri-St. Louis (18-6 overall, 12-5 GLVC) for a 7:30 p.m. game and finish the 2021-22 regular season campaign Saturday by hosting Lindenwood University (11-14 overall, 7-10 GLVC) for Senior Day at 3:15 p.m.
 
The Eagles will honor five seniors Saturday – guard/forward Clayton Hughes (Jackson, Tennessee); forward Tyler Dancy (Belleville, Indiana); guard/forward Glen Rouch (Belleville, Illinois); guard Mateo Rivera (Indianapolis, Indiana); and manager Logan Riney (Evansville, Indiana).

Following this weekend's, USI has earned the right to host a first round game in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at Screaming Eagles Areana, Monday. Game time and opponent is still to be announced.
 
USI Men's Basketball vs. UMSL, Lindenwood Quick Notes:
USI sweeps homestand. USI is 7-4 at home this year after sweeping last week's homestand. The Eagles defeated Maryville University, 65-58, behind freshman guard Isaiah Swope's 18 points, including 11 points in the final four minutes. USI completed the sweep with a 72-65 win over Missouri University of Science & Technology and was led by sophomore guard Tyler Henry, who had a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds, and junior forward Jacob Polakovich, who had 19 rebounds.
 
Henry has career night. Sophomore guard Tyler Henry had a career game versus Missouri S&T. He tied a USI career-best with 24 points, posted a career-high 11 rebounds, and recorded his first double-double. Henry averaged a team-best 18 points per game during the two-game homestand.
 
At home vs. the road USI is 5-4 at home this season, 9-2 on the road. The Eagles also are averaging 70.5 points per game at home, compared to 76.0 points per outing on the road.   
 
Doing the job on defense. The Eagles are holding the opposition under 70 points per game (65.0) for the season for the first time since 2012-13 (65.4). USI also is averaging 28.6 defensive rebounds per game this season.
 
Leading Scorer: Junior guard Jelani Simmons leads the way in scoring this season with 13.3 points per game. He is followed closely by junior forward Jacob Polakovich, who is posting a double-double with 12.0 points and 10.9 rebounds, and sophomore guard Tyler Henry, who also is posting 12.0 points per contest.  
 
Polakovich doubling up to lead the Eagles. Junior forward Jacob Polakovich is averaging a double-double 12.0 points and 10.9 rebounds per game in 2021-22. Polakovich is the GLVC leader and ranked 12th nationally in rebounding. 
 
USI vs. UMSL. USI holds a 39-14 all-time series lead over the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 32-4 in GLVC action. The Eagles and the Tritons did not play last season due to COVID. UMSL has had USI's number the last five games, taking three of five and two of three in 2019-20.
 
UMSL in 2021-22. UMSL moved to 18-6 overall and 12-5 in the GLVC after posting a 92-75 win over Lindenwood this afternoon at home. The Tritons, second in the GLVC Central Division, have been on a roll the last three week, winning four-straight and seven of the last nine games.  
 
USI vs Lindenwood. USI has a 3-0 advantage in the all-time series with Lindenwood University after taking the first meeting of 2021-22, 70-56. Sophomore guard Tyler Henry had 18 points to lead four players in double-digits with 18 points. Junior forward Jacob Polakovich also posted a double-double with 12 points and 19 rebounds.
 
Lindenwood in 2021-22. Lindenwood is 11-14 overall and 7-10 in the GLVC after its matchup with UMSL. The Lions, who host the University of Indianapolis Thursday before traveling to USI, have lost five of the last seven, including the 70-56 loss to the Eagles at home.
