CHARLESTON, Ill.—Sophomore distance runner
Emma Brown broke the school record in the 600 meters as University of Southern Indiana Women's Track & Field recorded three first-place finishes and 10 top-five performances at the Eastern Illinois University Friday Night Special Friday evening.
Brown ran an uncontested 600-meter race in one minute, 38.20 seconds, breaking the former record of 1:40.10 that was set by
Kaylee Lane at the 2020 GVSU Big Meet.
USI, which posted a 1-2-3 finish in the 3,000 meters, a 1-3 finish in the mile and a 2-4 placement in the 800 meters, also got first-place efforts from sophomore
McKenna Cavanaugh (New Albany, Indiana) and senior
Jennifer Comastri (Indianapolis, Indiana). Cavanaugh was first in the mile with an NCAA II provisional qualifying time of 4:59.31, while Comastri won the 3,000 meters with a provisional time of 9:44.29.
Cavanaugh also posted a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters, while Brown was third in the mile.
Freshman jumper
Margaret Schulten (Oakland City, Indiana) paced USI's fielders with a fourth-place finish in the high jump with a mark of four-feet, 11 inches.
USI returns to action February 26-27 when it competes at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Championships in Indianapolis.
