EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Tennis dropped their first match of the season on Friday, falling to Austin Peay State University, 4-3. The Screaming Eagles go to 2-1 overall, while the Governors are 3-1.
DOUBLES: The Eagles started the match slowly, as the number one and number three doubles were taken by Austin Peay State to claim the point. USI bounced back as the junior/senior pairing of
Lucas Sakamaki (Floyd Knobs, Indiana) and
Marvin Kromer (Germany) took their match 7-6 (7-5).
SINGLES: Sakamaki got right back to work for the Eagles, winning his match at number four singles in straight sets (6-4 6-0). Austin Peay State took the number one, three, and two singles matches next to claim the victory for the Governors. USI finished strong, winning at the number five singles when Kromer won his match in three sets (6-3, 0-6, 6-4), and the number six singles when freshman
Quinten Gillespie (Whiteland, Indiana) won his match in a tie breaker (3-6 7-6 (6-4) 1-0 (10-5).
UP NEXT FOR USI: The Eagles return to the Evansville Tennis Center for the final two matches of a three-match weekend. USI plays host to Brescia University on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., while finishing off the weekend Sunday against Georgetown College (KY.) with a 1:45 p.m. start.
