Eagles display promise at NCAA I ITA Regional

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Tennis displayed increased promise for the 2022-23 season with big wins in the NCAA Division ITA Midwest Regional at the University of Louisville and Bellarmine University Thursday and Friday.
 
In doubles, senior Lucas Sakamaki (Louisville, Kentucky) and freshman Omar ElSamahy (Egypt) led off the ITA's with an 8-7 tiebreaker win over Indiana University's Patrick Fletchall and Ilya Tiraspolsky for the Screaming Eagles' first ever NCAA I ITA doubles victory.  The USI duo would fall in the second round to Butler University's Brennan Thomas and Alvaro Huete in a tight 8-5 match.
 
In singles, freshman Alfrendo Vogelaar (Netherlands) posted the Eagles first Division I ITA singles win with a victory over the University of Tennessee-Chatanooga's Quinten Nevenhoven in straight-sets (6-2, 6-2). He would stumble in the second round in straight-sets (6-1, 6-3) to Belmont University's Riccardo Trione.
 
In the back draw, ElSamahy posted a tough victory over Butler's Joss Patrick in straight-sets (6-2, 7-5) to finish USI's stay in the 2022 regional.  
 
The Eagles finish fall action October 19 when they host Indiana University-Southeast for a dual match at 2:30 p.m. at the USI Tennis Courts.
