Eagles' Drop Third Straight, 2-1

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women's Soccer dropped its third straight Great Lakes Valley Conference match against the University of Illinois Springfield, 2-1. USI, now on its longest losing streak since the 2016 season, drops to 2-3-1, 0-3-0 GLVC, on the season while Illinois Springfield improves to 5-1-1, 3-1-0 GLVC.
 
The Screaming Eagles went into halftime down 1-0 after the Prairie Stars scored at the 16:11 mark. The Prairie Stars extended their lead in the second half with a goal at the 62:17 mark.
 
Freshman midfielder Savannah Grubbs (Hamilton, Ohio) scored her first career collegiate goal with less than two minutes to start a late USI rally. Senior forward Katlyn Andres (Louisville, Kentucky) set Grubbs' header with a cross from the near side. 
 
USI had a late shot off of a free kick from senior midfielder Rachel Gray (Franklin, Tennessee) but her shot was stopped by Illinois Springfield goalkeeper Allison Mirimanian, who had ten saves.  
 
The Eagles outshot the Prairie Stars 20-3 and had an 11-2 advantage in shots-on-goal. Freshman midfielder Avery Schone (Galena, Ohio) and freshman forward Alexis Schone (Galena, Ohio) led the way with four shots while Andres led the way with three shots-on-goal. 
 
NEXT UP FOR THE EAGLES:
USI finishes off the weekend homestand on Sunday as it hosts Lewis University. That matchup is set for a 2:30 p.m. kick-off. The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Flyers 14-3-3, having not lost a match since 2015. USI took down Lewis in its matchup last spring, 2-0.  
 
Lewis comes into the matchup with a record of 4-1-1, 2-1-1 GLVC, after falling to Indianapolis 2-1 Friday night.
