EVANSVILLE, IND. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Soccer fell to the University of Illinois Springfield 2-1 at Strassweg Field on Friday night. The Screaming Eagles (1-4-0, 0-3 GLVC) lose their third straight game while the Stars (5-2-0, 4-0 GLVC) claim their fourth straight victory and stay undefeated in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Zach Schoenstein (Evansville, Indiana) broke the tie with an unassisted goal at the 35:36 mark, giving USI a 1-0 advantage. The Eagles' defense was on point in the first 45 minutes, holding the Stars' offense to just two shots.
The second half began with an Illinois Springfield game-tying goal from sophomore defender Drew Keller (51:48). The Stars scored again at the 67:54 mark by junior forward Lars Brinkman, giving Illinois Springfield a 2-1 lead. The Eagles could not rally as the Stars defense held their ground, keeping USI to just four shots in the second half.

Justin Faas (Caramel, Indiana) allowed two goals and recorded three saves from 10 shots faced between the posts.

The Eagles finish the homestand at Strassweg Field on Sunday (September 26) at noon against Lewis University.
Prior to tonight's match at #2 University of Indianapolis, the Flyers stare at a 4-1-1 record, 2-1-0 in GLVC play. Lewis is 1-0-0 on the road prior to tonight.
The Eagles trail 8-13-2 in the series against the Flyers since 2001. The last contest saw USI falling to Lewis 2-1 in Romeoville, Illinois, in March 2021. The Eagles are 5-4 at home against the Flyers.
