EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Soccer lost the 2021 Great Lakes Valley Conference opener, 1-0, to McKendree University Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. The Eagles fall to 1-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the GLVC, while the Bearcats rise to 1-0-2, 1-0-0 GLVC in 2021.
USI went back and forth across the field with McKendree during the first half, going in to the break tied, 0-0. McKendree had the edge in shots, 6-1, and corner kicks, 6-0.
The second half saw the Eagles press the Bearcats with six shots, but it was McKendree that got the match's only tally. The Bearcats slide the game-winner into the back of the USI goal at 63:52.

Brian Winkler missed an open goal, wide left. USI was outshot in the match overall, 13-7.

USI hits the road for the first time this season Friday at 6:30 p.m. (CDT) when it travels to play NCAA Division II second-ranked University of Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Greyhounds started action Sunday with a 2-0-0 record and were slated to host the University of Missouri-St. Louis at 1:30 p.m. (CDT).
The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Greyhounds, 23-17-0, despite falling in the only meeting last season, 2-1, at Goebel Soccer Complex. UIndy has had the upper hand on USI in the last 10 meetings, taking eight of the matches.
