EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Five different players had at least five kills for University of Southern Indiana Volleyball Friday night as the Screaming Eagles rolled to a 25-19, 25-13, 25-23 victory over visiting Davis & Elkins College at the USI Invitational at Screaming Eagles Arena.
Freshman outside hitter
Abby Bednar (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) paced the Eagles with a career-high 10 kills to go along with a .471 attacking percentage, while junior middle hitter
Taylor Litteken (Foristell, Missouri) finished with seven kills and a .538 attacking percentage. Senior setter
Casey Cepicky (St. Louis, Missouri) added 32 assists, while sophomore outside hitter
Leah Anderson (Bloomington, Illinois) tallied seven kills, nine digs and four aces.
USI (5-2), which has won five straight matches, used runs of 11-4 and 5-1 to pull out the six-point win in the opening stanza, while a 12-3 run to begin the second set proved to be too much for Davis & Elkins (1-3) to climb out of. Bednar laid down six of her 10 kills in the third set as the Eagles rallied from a late five-point deficit to pull out the two-point win in the match-clincher.
The Eagles finish the USI Invitational Saturday at 2:30 p.m. when they take on Midwest Region foe Wayne State University. USI can clinch the tournament title with a win over the Warriors.
