EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women's Soccer could not withstand a flurry of shots by the University of Indianapolis in the finals seconds and lost the season opener, 2-1, Sunday evening at the Goebel Soccer Complex in Evansville, Indiana. The Screaming Eagles starts the season 0-1-0 while UIndy goes to 1-1-0.

In the second half, the UIndy offense kicked into gear as the Greyhounds would knot the game 1-1 at 51:49. The Greyhounds would start to pound the Eagles' goals with seven more shots in the second half, including three shots on goal in the final five minutes before getting the game-winner with 19.5 seconds left on the clock.
The Eagles had multiple chances to put the match away in the second half and had an 9-1 advantage in corner kicks in the finals half. USI had an 11-2 lead in corners for the match.
USI goes on the road next week with visits to Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois, for a 3 p.m. match and the University of Illinois Springfield March 7 for a noon contest.
The Eagles lead the all-time series with Lewis, 15-5-4 after tying the Flyers, 1-1, in double overtime at Strassweg Field in 2019. USI is unbeaten in the series with Illinois Springfield, 9-0-2, following a 3-1 blasting of the Prairie Stars last season
