No. 17 Volleyball Soars to Fifth-Straight Sweep

Eagles drop No. 6 Rockhurst and Lindenwood in GLVC Triangular

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - University of Southern Indiana Women's Volleyball swept both No. 6 Rockhurst and Lindenwood in the USI-hosted GLVC Triangular on Saturday at Screaming Eagles Arena. 

The 17th-ranked Screaming Eagles have swept five-straight contests to improve to 5-1 on the season with the only loss coming in the first match against No. 2 Lewis (then No. 14) in five sets. 

As a team, the Eagles posted top numbers in kills, assists, digs, and hitting percentage in the two matches on Saturday. USI posted top-tier statistics in kills with 50 (season-high, vs. Rockhurst), assists with 47 (season-high, vs. Lindenwood), digs with 58 (second-most this season, vs. Rockhurst), and hitting percentage at .333 (second-highest this season, vs. Lindenwood). 

Versus No.6 Rockhurst:
The Screaming Eagles swept another GLVC opponent, led by double-digit kill outings by Leah Anderson, Katherine Koch, and Sidney Hegg while Casey Cepicky amassed a fourth 30-plus assist contest.  

Coordinating the USI attack was Cepicky, dishing out 37 assists while three players recorded more than 10 points in the three-set match. The Screaming Eagles' offense featured Anderson with 17 kills, Koch with 11, and Hegg posting a season-high of 10 kills while Callie Gubera led the service effort with two aces.

On the defensive end, the Eagles thwarted eight Rockhurst attacks with eight blocks, led by Taylor Littken, Cepicky, and Anderson (two each). The Eagles flew around the court, laying out for 58 digs, being led by freshman Abby Weber (18 digs) and Cepicky (12 digs). 

Versus Lindenwood:
USI had to fight through a tough first (27-25) and second set (25-23) to take a 2-0 lead over the Lions, but dropped Lindenwood 25-14 in the third and final set. 

On offense, Cepicky took charge and dished out a season-high 39 assists while laying out for nine digs and chipped in three kills with two blocks as well. 

Anderson blasted a second-straight game of 17 kills to lead the USI offensive, hitting .455 and adding nine digs, three aces, and two blocks. 

Koch was the second Screaming Eagle to who posted back-to-back games with double-digit kills, sending 11 through the Lion defense, hitting .231 while also playing a major defensive role with eight digs and one block. 

Weber and Littken both went for eight kills against Lindenwood with both Eagles falling just short of double-doubles. 

NOTES:
Senior setter Casey Cepicky recorded 76 assists on the day with 37, a then-season-high, against Rockhurst and a season-high of 39 against Lindenwood. She ranks sixth all-time in the USI record book for assists with 2,421.

Cepicky has posted four-straight matches with 30-plus assists, dishing out a season-high against Lindewood with 39, which bested her previous season-high of 37 (against Rockhurst on the same day). 

The sophomore duo of Leah Anderson and Katherine Koch proved to be more than effective on the day, totalling 56 kills and 63.0 points between the two. Anderson sliced through the defenses of the Hawks and Lions with 17 kills per game and a hitting percentage of .447. Koch posted 11 kills in both matchups on the day. 

The freshman Abby Weber played all-around for the Eagles, totalling 14 kills, 31 digs and 16.0 points to help push USI to two more sweeps.
