USI kicks off GLVC Tournament Sunday

Eagles travel to UIndy for 1st round

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women's Soccer kicks off the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament on the road Sunday when it makes a second visit to the University of Indianapolis this fall. The Screaming Eagles are appearing in the GLVC Tournament for the sixth-straight season.
 
USI (10-5-2, 8-5-1 GLVC) begins tournament action as the fifth seed, while UIndy (10-2-3, 8-2-3 GLVC) is the fourth seed. Match time is set for 11 a.m. (CDT) at Key Stadium on the UIndy campus.

USI Women's Soccer Week 10 Notes:
 
USI in the GLVC Tournament: The Eagles are making their 14th appearance in the GLVC Tournament overall and are in search of their second conference tournament championship. USI is 9-13-1 all-time in the conference tournament after winning the GLVC Tournament Championship in 2019 and reaching the finals last spring.
 
Eagles on a roll to end the season: After starting the GLVC season 0-4-1, the Eagles won a school-record tying seven-straight matches and finished the season by winning eight of nine matches.
 
For the season: Freshman midfielder Avery Schone (Galena, Ohio) and sophomore forward Morgan Beyer (Rossford, Ohio) lead the team in scoring with 12 points each. Schone is tied for the team lead with five goals and two assists, while Beyer has four goals and four assits. Sophomore midfielder Jill DiTusa (St. Charles, Missouri) follows with 11 points, tying Schone with five goals and one assist. Beyer leads the team with three game-winning goals, while DiTusa has two.
 
Etienne between the posts: Sophomore goalkeeper Maya Etienne (Midland, Michigan) has a team-best five shutouts this season, raising her career total to 27 in two-plus seasons. She is one shutouts away of shattering the USI mark (27.5) that has been held by Angie Gries since 1999.
 
Schoenstein is second all-time at USI: Head Coach Eric Schoenstein is second all-time at USI with a 63-35-14 mark in five-plus years at the helm of the Eagles. He has led the Eagles to their only GLVC regular season and tournament championships, along with the program's second trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
 
UIndy in 2021: UIndy finished the 2021 regular season with a 10-2-3 overall mark, 8-2-3 in the GLVC, after posting a win over Lindenwood, 2-1, and at tie at Maryville University, 1-1, in double overtime during the final weekend. The Greyhounds are 2-1-2 in the final five matches of the fall.
 
USI versus UIndy: USI leads the all-time series with UIndy, 15-13-1, after losing this fall's regular season match with the Greyhounds, 1-0, in Indianapolis. The Eagles are 6-2-1 in the last nine meetings, including two wins in the GLVC Tournament (Spring 2021 & Fall 2019) in Indianapolis.  
 
USI against 2021 GLVC Tournament field: The Eagles were 2-4-1 against the GLVC Tournament field this fall. USI defeated Missouri University of Science & Technology and Drury University; tied Lewis University; and lost to UIndy, Truman State University, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and McKendree University.
