Eagles look to extend winning streak this weekend

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Soccer returns to Strassweg Field this weekend riding a three-match winning streak when it host Rockhurst University and William Jewell College. The Screaming Eagles (4-4-0, 3-3-0 GLVC) are set to host Rockhurst (4-5-1, 3-2-1 GLVC) Friday at 5 p.m. and Willliam Jewell (1-8-0, 1-6-0 GLVC) Sunday at noon.

USI Men's Soccer Week 6 Notes:
 
USI last week: The Eagles completed a road-trip sweep for the first time in 2021 by defeating Truman State University, 2-0, and Quincy University, 3-1. USI sophomore forward Zach Barton (St. Louis, Missouri) and freshman forward Zach Schoenstein (Evansville, Indiana) led the way with three and two goals, respectively.
 
Winkler named GLVC Player of the Week: USI sophomore midfielder Brian Winkler (Philpot, Kentucky) was named the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week after assisting on all five of USI's goals last week. The award is the first for Winkler and the first for an Eagle since 2018.
 
Eagles riding a three-match winning streak: USI has won three-straight matches, one short of the longest mark since 2019 when it won four-straight.
 
Santoro is USI's all-time leader: Head Coach Mat Santoro is the program's all-time leader in victories (108). Santoro, who has a 108-91-22 overall record at the helm, has guided the Eagles to a pair of NCAA II Tournament appearances; the 2018 GLVC regular season crown, and seven GLVC Tournament appearances during his tenure.

Rockhurst in 2021: Rockhurst was winless last week, tying the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 0-0, in double-overtime and falling at Lindenwood University, 3-0. The Hawks are 3-1-1 in their last five matches.
 
USI versus Rockhurst: Rockhurst holds a 21-2-5 series lead over the Eagles after tying 1-1 each of the last two seasons.
William Jewell in 2021: The Cardinals of William Jewell have lost six-straight matches after posting their only win of the season, 1-0, at Southwest Baptist University. Jewell plays at the University of Indianapolis Friday before coming to Strassweg Field.
 
USI versus William Jewell: USI and William Jewell are tied in the all-time series, 4-4-1, after the Cardinals took the match last spring, 3-2, in Liberty. The Eagles hold a 3-2-0 lead over the Cardinals in the last five matches.
