MEET THE USI STAFF: Keely Porter

With the 2020-21 University of Southern Indiana Athletic seasons postponed due to COVID-19, we wanted to take this time to re-introduce the Screaming Eagles coaches and staff members.

Today's featured coach is USI Women's Tennis Head Coach Keely Porter, the program's all-time leader in victories with 246 in her 30 years at the helm. She has led the Eagles to two NCAA Division II Tournament appearances and 12 top-four finishes in the GLVC.

Here is a little more about USI's all-time winningest women's tennis coach:

Hometown: Newburgh, Indiana

Best part of growing up in Newburgh: Growing up in my large family of seven

Alma Mater(s): Castle High School/University of Evansville

Favorite Athlete All-Time: Monica Seles

Favorite Sports Team(s): Boston Celtics with Larry Bird; Pittsburgh Steelers with Terry Bradshaw; University of Kentucky with Kyle Macy (I enjoyed supporting teams my brothers did not like.)

Favorite part of USI? Why? Beautiful campus & friendly employees

If you were not a coach/athletic administrator, what career would you have? Probably teach tennis at country club or indoor facility.

Your go to activity during COVID-19? The family had just moved in late February, so I unpacked during bad weather and did landscaping on nice days for months. We also got sister Springer Spaniel puppies, Sadie & Aggie.

What was your favorite beverage during lockdown? Ketel One Mint and Cucumber Vodka with soda water.

Your go to food? Make-your-own nachos is current a family favorite, choosing shrimp, vegan crumbles, or real chicken.

Who is the messiest person you know? Currently, my stepdaughter, Danielle. You usually cannot see the floor of the largest bedroom in the house.

What will finally break the internet? Mr. Robot (USA Network show starring Rami Malek)
